Hi, I’m Randal Scott King, but feel free to call me Scott. I’m the managing partner of Brilliant Data, a consulting firm specializing in analyzing data for companies looking for a new competitive advantage. I’m also the technical reviewer for a couple of books on Big Data and the author of a video training on Hadoop by Packt Publishing. Please check them out, they produce great technical material.
This is my personal blog, where I write regularly on business and technology issues. Data Science and the Hadoop ecosystem are particular passions of mine so they feature prominently in the posts here. The goal of this site is to produce tips and techniques that both beginners and experts, really anyone who works with data, will find useful.
On this blog I make every effort to be polite, but occasionally my tone is irreverent and you might catch a four-letter word here and there. That’s just me. Don’t be offended, just have fun.
If you like what you read, be sure to subscribe via email so you don’t miss any posts.
I’ve spent sixteen years in IT consulting, advising some of the largest networks in the world. Past clients have included such industry leaders as Sprint, Bellsouth (now AT&T), Oxford Industries, Lowe’s and Gulfstream. I now consult for major clients in the areas of Big Data, analytics, and network architecture at Brilliant Data.
In a former life I was a recording and live sound engineer. Every once in a blue moon I still use those skills.
When not working I enjoy spending time with my children, volunteering, and occasionally playing golf (even though I’m terrible at it).
